Re: Something strange swimming in the RR

Thanks to everyone for the replies! . It was either a mink or an otter, but I'm pretty sure it was an otter at this point. After doing doing some research I found that people usually seem them near steep river banks, and there happened to be a very tall steep bank right where I saw him. I'm not ruling mink out, but I really want to believe it was an otter Such a cool sight to see, it's amazing to see wildlife like this returning in NJ. The same day just a few hours before I saw a bald eagle on my grandpa's farm with a juvenile following close behind. too cool! Thanks again everyone, tight lines! |

Split Rock and Tilcon too. Don't count on seeing them often. Monks are much smaller than Otters.

I'm honestly thankful I got to see one! I know they're hard to come by.

Re: Something strange swimming in the RR
I have seen otters in the Paulinskill in Blairstown. I have seen them in Bigflat brook and also the Raritan in long valley. There are actually quite a few in NJ you especially see them very early in the morning

Re: Something strange swimming in the RR
Squirrels can't swim when they are holding their nuts.

Re: Something strange swimming in the RR
I've also seen several in the Great Swamp. Could it have been a beaver? |

Re: Something strange swimming in the RR
I don't think it was a beaver, tail was long and thin and sticking up slightly out of the water.
