ok thanks matt. i checked out that site...I really don't think i want to pay more than like 15-20 bucks per alarm so i was looking at these:

why are they so much cheaper than the other ones? do you know what you're paying for with the really expensive ones? I just need some that will alarm when the line goes out only no bells and whistles needed.

bigboy let me know if this isn't true when you get them, but i think those (which i looked at first) once the line moves the alarm continuously goes off. I keep the reel so that the live bait can take line a little if it really swims (I've seen this trigger bites many times) so these alarms wouldn't work for me cause i'd be tending to bait movement all night haha.

just realized i need a special stake for the line alarm to screw into i guess? couldn't find them on the site except for huge multi rod holder set ups haha.

I'm guessing for the price they're crap but what about these:

http://www.bigcarptackle.com/ngt-clip-on-z-alarm

no special rod holder needed. unless they get in the way while casting and fighting the fish? I feel like you wouldn't want the line in the alarm wheel while fighting the fish.

i hate buying new stuff online, i wish stores around here just had them so i could look at it and not worry about all the guess work and just exchange it if i wanted something else haha
