Had our annual HPV wreck trip planned with Captain Hank but the stiff northwest breeze put the kabosh on the mid range area so Hank said the catfishings been decent we can do that then go slippery bassin after. left the dock at 5:28am accompanied by team bromance member Dave Tats, Cousin rick & his friend Jerry, Bock & Pop, Frankel & Pop, Scooter, Directa & the most interesting fisherman in the world Kurtis mother trcuking Berry.
Made a quick left out da inlet & Hank didn't pick up anyhing on the sidescan so we headed south to great redings & deployed the spoons. went 3-4 on the spoons in about 2 hours with me losing the only fish as I put about 3% effort into reeling it in. Captain Hank then got a call from up north that bunker bite was on so we steamed back up north got into the mayhem. ended up snag & dropping 8 bass into the boat & 7 or 8 scary sized blues. At one point Capt asked me to drop a jig down see if the blues would hit the jig but i was only able to jig 7 bunker & a throwback skate ( thats skill). Once we had our striped catfish limit we headed to som rubble for glamour fishing. I had hot hand with 5 keeper tog(ORL) in about 1:30hrs & threw back 6 more shorts. Bite was finicky as the south current was being a biznitch. We picked away until we had 13 keepers & came on in. Great day as always weather was gorgeous inshore then at about noon got even nicer with tshirt togging happening. Saw a fellow sponsors Jersey Hooker,Mushin,Fish Stix,Cock Robin & Parker Pete all out there working the bunker & putting there fares into the catfish bite. John & Nate were always rught there to help if needed as per ususal. Also big thanks to Capt Chad for the bucket of jumbo perch. I cannot wait for tog season to open!
