Millstone river/ D&R canal fishing 6/22

fished from 8-11 this morning starting off on the millstone with a buzzbait. got 1 decent pickerel then switched over to a tandem spinner and caught another one of the same size. had alot of misses also. finished up the morning with a yamamoto tube jig in the canal's lock and picked up a decent smallie. some carp were cruising in the millstone's shallows and the canal was clear and low. Covered in sweat, I beat the heat and also beat the skunk

Nice catch, somehow still havent managed to snag me a Pickerel yet this year .

There are Musky in the D&R, correct?

yes, they are rare but can be found between the Kingston-Princeton stretch. I'm guessing because that is where trout are stocked, the perfect meal for muskies.

What is up with the canal? It looks to be about 4 feet low right now. Did they start to drain it for the dredging?

I'm not sure, probably from lack of rain. i never heard anything about it being dredged.

This new water company that took over is doing alot of strange stuff with the Raritan and the D&R canal

Still no pike yet ......hmmmph

I'm jealous. I can't stop catching the darn things. I've had days where I've caught 10+ in a 4 hr trip.

Nice report. Where are the Millstone river PIKE, I would like to see if anybody out there has ever caught a nice one out of that river. Are they holding in the river? Ive never fished the Millstone but ill give it hell if theres a good PIKE population!!!

Pike are seldom in the millstone. i tried several times and ended up with just pickerel...there are probably a few holding out somewhere. gotta keep trying different stuff and spots i guess.

A buddy of mine caught two small pike in the millstone and as far as musky being in the DnR ... I'm yet to see that also. I've heard the rumors but never have seen the fish and I fish that canal all the time and have been for years since its less then a mile from my house. I've caught huge dam near 6lb pickerel out of there but no musky
