I was on Memorial Drive this morning where Neptune meets Asbury Park just west of the NJ Transit railroad tracks. Looked like 8 passenger cars were being demolished and my first thought was 'why isn't NJ cleaning them up and sinking them offshore as they do with old subway cars from NYC Transit?'
Any one know a valid reason or were they hoping to keep this under the radar? |

NJ refused a number of train cars a few years back that were offered for our Artificial Reef Program. They went to another State. Don't remember which neighbor greatfully accepted them for trheir Program.

i thought they stopped using subway cars and trains because the bodies fall apart to nothing a lot faster than they expected, and they are real time consuming (expensive) to clean enough to drop
concrete rubble from old bridges etc are pretty much ready to drop as soon as they are knocked down, so much cheaper, make structure that sticks around longer and can be piled higher
