IT WAS GOOD FISHING ON THE OFFSHORE GIANT SEA BASS TRIP!!
The SEA BASS were all nice-sized up to 6-1/2 lbs. There were limits all around and everyone was in catch and release mode. We also had BLUEFISH, WEAKFISH, LING and DINNER PLATE SIZE PORGIES. We threw Dogfish to BLUEFINS that were swimming by and hooked several but they got away. We have another OFFSHORE GIANT SEA BASS TRIP scheduled for TOMORROW, SATURDAY, DEC. 28TH THAT DEPARTS AT 8PM. Let’s get one more exciting trip in before the season is over! Check out the great pictures from today’s trip and make your reservations AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The GOLDEN EAGLE sails every day for STRIPERS & BLUES at 6:30 am from Belmar Marina in Belmar, NJ. For more information visit us at www.goldeneaglefishing.com or call 732-681-6144. See you onboard. |

wow,,nice fishing!.. a question for whomever might have insight...
Are those blues and weaks "wintering" out on those wrecks, 70-80 miles offshore?... I always thought of blues and weaks as heading north and south seasonally, not inshore offshore.. Are they just stopping and feeding out there on their way south?, or actually wintering over? If the head boats were allowed to fish all winter out there , would those blues and weaks still be there in say late february?.. Just wondering... bob |

Always had blues and weaks in the catch all through Jan, Feb and March. Believe it or not, the blues and weaks would thin out as it came into March and were more prevalent in Jan and Feb. If I had to guess Id say yeah, they winter over on these wrecks/rockpiles. One other observation is all the fish were very cookie cutter Blues always 3-5lb fish and weaks around 2-4. Nothing smaller nothing larger.

I have posted here several times about how years ago, one of the old school party boat captains out of AH told my brother that not all fluke wintered offshore, some stayed local right in the deeper channels in the bay, and other near shore areas.. I always believed that as over the years I have seen them caught in the middle of January on crabs meant for blackfish, and have seen them caught in march on flounder baits. It is interesting that often real life experiences of fishermen don't jive with the accepted norms we read about in the literature published by "experts",, biologists, scientists, conservationists,, you know,- all the "ist" types... bob |
