Jason and I did our annual day after fluke season opens fluke trip on the Navesink River. Conditions were not ideal as the wind kept changing direction on us until it finally decided to come out of the south at 10-15. We combined to catch 17 fluke with each of us getting one keeper. Jason also got a cocktail bluefish. Everything on live bait, never once touched did we tie on a bucktail or use GULP. Only saw three other fluke caught. Fluke were spitting up grass shrimp. Fluke were warm to the touch and most were chunky. Upon filleting the bigger of the two keepers, we discovered it’s stomach full of grass shrimp and two small blue claw crabs.
