Default Weekend Trout and Salmon

On Saturday, I had some unexpected car trouble in the morning, but still managed to squeeze in a little fishing. Caught and released this solid rainbow trout in frigid temps.

On Sunday morning I hit the ice for a few hours. Fishing was slow, but I caught a nice landlocked salmon and some pickerel. While I've caught plenty of salmon in open water, this was my first through the ice.

I'll just add pics to this report:

got my first ice fishing salmon as well and jigged up a nice bass when i moved into the weeds because i got fed up with the salmon following my lure and not hitting it.

Justin / Chris nice job with the land locks. Beautiful fish! Justin congrats on first one through the ice. I just wish they would raise the minimum size to 18", 12" is way too small considering the few that are stocked. This shouldn't be viewed like trout as a put and take fishery. Might get some flack for saying that but this could become a real trophy fishery in NJ if we provide a bit more protection to the few that are currently being stocked in four impoundments. Prospects of catching 6 - 8 lb salmon in my opinion outweighs keeping them at 12 or 13 inches. These fish will holdover and prosper in the lakes year round, unlike trout which won't survive the summer months in many of the skinny waters they're stocked.
