I ran a charter for 18 yrs based out of Sodus Bay , one item Imalways ran was a down temp . Salmon can be finicky feeders & finding active fish on bait at correct temps can equal success. Generally speaking ur fishing n/ s so not e/ w so generally deeper water on west wind . I uased to try fish over 100' plus this time of year. Many times in that end of lLake which deepens quickly compared to where I fished it may be only a few miles of shore .
Strong south wind for several days can move thermo up & stack fish close in to the beach . Dipseys / today R run wire with due to cleaner water & fleas .i never ecountered any of these provlems since I left in late nineties. Dodger fly combos caught well as did NK spoons which landed all my thirty plus fish except a few . Alway be aware of temp & active fish in thermo depths , some guys run fast I always preferred around two knts , also stay out late till sundown , they come up at night and many a day was saved in the last hour! I would stack my riggers & pin stacks ten to thirty feet of ball use longer leads on bottom shorter on top to be able to turn tightly w/o issue . Fluoro lds R a must now . 10/12 # should be fine for non charter. Often times we had salmon & other species hit where they shouldn't have been ! Stay away from crowds fish bynumself if possible , watch u scope on riggers & make sure the baits R in temp zone! If ur machine can read the balls then use it to attain & hold proper depth Good luck ! Check ur PM's Last edited by Capt. Lou; 07-31-2015 at 06:49 PM.. Reason: Left out |
