Spro bucktails have pretty small hooks, 3/0 I believe, I would recommend buying jigs off somebody who makes them themselves. They're much cheaper, just as nice(some are even nicer) and they use proper hooks for keeper sized fluke. In my opinion for 20 inch + fluke you need at least a 5/0 hook and I personally don't use smaller then 6/0. I drop a lot of shorts when fluking with the bigger hooks but I rarely drop a nice one. I use 6 inch Grubs and Mullets on both my teaser and jig nothing smaller.

Good luck for 2015.
Bucktailboys.com have some good jigs, tested and proven in local waters. I think they will be in Hi-Mar flear market coming Saturday and I may pick up few more;-). Last edited by Capt.Yasar; 02-01-2015 at 07:48 PM.. |

i did notice the barbs on the spros are very small thus allowing the hook to slide back out instead of grabbin ....that i think contributed to my drops and misses .....i will def check out bucks with bigger hooks ! i refuse to go out a loser again this year and hearing the bs lol ....

Good luck in 2015 I hope it's a great one. Fluke fishing is my favorite I actually spent the last few nights thinking about summer fluking and had a tough time getting to sleep haha

I use 8/0 for my teaser six inch gulp. If you think it's too big, your still wrong

Also, you might want to think about getting away from a stationary hook.( Spro bucktails) The stationary hook allows the hook to pop too many times when a fluke does his tell tale head shake. In my opinion you will lose less fish with a swinging hook and gain more action with your presentation.
