Default Another boat rescue

This time it was Spruce Run. Why do people think it's ok to go out on the water with wind gusts to 30 mph?

That was a twelve foot motor boat that capsized. Must be some serious wind.

Both these guys are my age and they're out fishing on a Thursday morning.
Have you ever felt like you're the only one who has to work all week?

I've been on Round Valley a few times when mother nature turns ugly. You need to know when to call it quits.

But I never came close to flipping my 14' deep v. I wonder if these guys had a jon boat. I'd worry about taking a 12' jon boat out in the wind.

Glad they're both okay.

This generation has more unemployed, more retiring early, more collecting welfare/disability/work comp, etc. It all means more fishing while your working. Heck when I was unemployed about 14-15 years ago, I fished every day while looking for work. lol. I always take my vacation days on tues, wed or thursdays thinking I'll have water to myself since most will take fridays or mondays off to extend the weekends. Well thats the way it used to be. Not anymore. Its not unusual now to see a dozen or so boats midday wednesday in late April. Damn economy is ruining the fishing!

As for the wind, I think anglers forget that even on calm days, there is always a breeze coming across the water. Basically the wind is funneled over the water since there is no obstruction. The larger the water, the bigger the breeze. If they forecast wind gusts to 30mph, you can add another 4-6 mph over water. I have no scientific proof of this but it sure feels windier.

I agree with that theory. I blame manufacturing moving overseas for this. Some people are finding it harder to find work and are making less money when they do settle for a job, hence more unemployed and under-employed people fishing during the week.

(I won't even go into the effects of immigration here.)

The irony is there are fewer licenses being sold now, but it appears the people who do buy licenses are spending a lot more time fishing.
