Default The local channels of our nearshore waters

Got the call yesterday to suit up as second mate for our annual last week of July trip (28th). We hit it real early as always and broke out of the no wake zone by zero seven fifty (am). The target was fluke (aka summer flounder). The tide was outgoing and the winds were light sou souwest turning easterly. On the steam out, cap saw the fleet and turned to look my way and we both nodded. I knew then we were going to the secret spot. (It takes years of being on the h2o to speak telepathically among crew members like that). We threw the bag at them and drifted snake like baits over noticeable habitat. The bite turned on quick and with one rod bent over in the tell tale upside down "C" shape, I immediately cleared the cockpit for the inevitable end game. But this was not going to be like Balderdash (lol). After a few grueling minutes, a doormat (aka a larger than average sized fluke) of 27 inches slipped into the net. Congratulations were shared by fellow mariners in our drift zone who were keen to the bite. We then boxed it up and headed for the barn to the fine tunes of the traveling wilburys. Until next time, tight lines all.
