Striped Bass in the Rivers

If anyone is fishing our bigger rivers, are the stripers still in the rivers or have they already gone back to the ocean this season?
Asking because i have not caught one yet and would like to try fishing for them in Passaic river below the Dundee Dam area.
Will be trying bucktails.
