Default Canyon Overnighter on the Russian Roulette 10/12-13

Went on the Russian Roulette for a Canyon Overnighter with my pal Chico and 3 other guys, all named Anthony. CApt Dennis and Mate Matt did a great job.

Sunday AM weather was a bit snotty and we waited till about Noon to head out.

4-5 hours later we arrived at the Hudson after a bumpy ride but it could have been much worse. Not too many other boats out there when we arrived. Started chunking and got a Mahi right away. They were swarming the boat but weren't taking what we were offering. As it got dark we picked away at the fish. By the end of the night we had 5 Longfin and 2 smaller sized Yellowfin.

We got whacked few time by big stuff but we lost them due to operator error and a pulled hook. Overnight chunk was slow. Plenty of squid on top and fish on the screen but we couldn't get a bite, except for another Mahi.

There was no pre-dawn bite and at sunup CApt Dennis moved the boat to find better water. Good move on his part as we picked up2 nice 80# class Yellowfin Tuna. The bit slowed down agin and we got whacked hard but the guy on the rod locked the drag and you know the rest of the story.

Sardines were the ticket and the auto-chunker on the boat is great for keeping up a consistent chumline.

We called it a day around 11 am and headed back in.

From what I heard on the radio we did well.
