Default Eastmans Report 8/31 NEW REGS

Deep Sea Fishing Reports

8/31/14
New Regs

As of tomorrow Monday September 1, 2014 we will no longer be able to retain Cod/Haddock. Everyone assumed they would change the ruling on the Haddock after the July study where they determined how abundant the Haddock are, but as of this moment they have not. Still optimistic something will change prior to November 1 when Haddock is open again. In the mean time we will be targeting Pollock (19" no bag limit), Reds (9" no bag limit) Whiting/Silver Hake (no limit either way), Cusk, Ling ,etc. Luckily there are Pollock and Reds around. Last 8 years that's all the people come for November/December/January, are the big Pollock. Big surprise is the abundance of Whiting ( fish sandwiches/ fish sticks). We have been running several charters targeting just the Whiting and Ling with HUGE success. We might try a few special trips later in the month targeting just the Whiting, but for now Pollock and Reds are on the agenda. If you would like to go on a Whiting trip, Fisharkadventures/proboards.com runs many charters up and down the coast for selected companies. He has many trips set up here at Eastmans for Whiting, some for Pollock and in December a two day trip(two separate days) to support the food bank. He runs both six packs and big boat charters. Info on all his trips can be found on his web site.

Half day boats are killing the Blues, yesterday afternoon(Saturday) was the lone exception, but plenty around for sure. We will be running seven days a week all day and half day along with Fri/Sat two hour night trips and Tuesday and Friday three hour Bass trips. We are however giving most of the company a day off Tuesday, September 2. A much needed day of calm after the busiest summer on record. Morning, noon and nights have been crazy busy, and we thank you. We will have the Bass trip and Capt Nate has a private charter Tuesday, Sept 2 and the office will be open. Additionally the all day boat will start leaving at 7 am until June 2015, FYI.
