Default Bluefin Tuna Retention Update

Looks like NOAA Fisheries received too many complaint calls. July 1st can't come soon enough!

As of July 1, 2025, the retention limits will be:

Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Vessel/Permit Type

Retention Limit per Vessel per Day/Trip (lengths in curved fork length)

Private vessels with HMS Angling permits

1 bluefin tuna measuring 27 to <73”

Charter/Headboats with HMS Charter/Headboat permits, when fishing recreationally

2 bluefin tuna measuring 27 to <73”, of which only 1 fish may be a large school/small medium bluefin tuna (47 to <73”)

Lots of people sit on the sidelines because they think “ Why bother… Nothings going to change”.

Well, if you do nothing, nothing will change…

Hats off to those who made some noise and made a difference!

Its sort of a middle ground. Im still not happy with it. One 27-47 & one 47->73 would be perfect. Give a chance to a crew of 5 to eat good sushi for a few days.

I dunno. I feel like we're being bamboozled. Satiated with a smidge back when they nearly took it all.

Ok...can live with that. It's worth going out for them then....gear won't collect dust.
