Default Father Son day on the water.

Finally got a chance to go fishing with my son Nick. I left the barn late to catch the outgoing and west wind. Headed down the beach off SH and there were birds working and schools of small Bluefish all over the place. We started casting 007's and it was none stop action. After about a half hour of that it was time to fish for the target species. Hit some drop-offs in 30-40 ft of water and it was mostly sea robins and small fluke. I decided to go to some numbers in deeper water in hopes of bigger fish. On my way out I saw a nice deep hole on the chart that had rocks in 60ft of water so I stopped to check it out. It was the right move. We caught about 6 Fluke all over 20" and kept our 2 fish limit over 18". We also caught some shorts but not one sea bass. That's a first for me this year. South wind picked up and it was time to go home. It was a great day on the water with my son. Tight lines all!

Sounds like a great day of fishing. Nice when you see something you think will hold fish and are rewarded. Funny no sea bass , they’ve been a nuisance this summer eating all my gulp

Were you bucktailing or dragging bait?

Nice report!

That wind sucked. I think I chipped a tooth turning the corner into the bay

Thanks Gerry. We used a simple 3 way with 5" Gulp Grub tipped with a spearing. Way to much current to bucktail.

Thanks Duff. I'm sure it was snotty! That's why we left around 11am The wind laid down a bit and no more wind against tide with the beginning of the out going tide and west wind.

Getting back was interesting. Chet and crew running around the docks assisting peeps that needed a hand. Good stuff!
