Default Opening day Seabass

So what's the concensus do you think Friday is worth fishing for Seabass? Ocean has been torn up for days and still a few to go. I'm hoping them fish will be plenty hungry on Friday!

The weather will be ok but the fish may have moved/ unsettled bottom. Around time for the mid shore migration to start.

I think the ocean will have laid down by Friday but the bottom might still be roiled and silted. Not sure how good sea bass will bite in those conditions (& has previously stated they might have been pushed offshore by the storm. Might be best to see what Friday’s reports show and go Saturday.

Maybe I'll bring my couch if I go.

If they wait, who's going to Report?

If it's anything like last year, you'll catch a lot more porgies than seabass.

There is a reason they open the sea bass season up this time of year.. They know that a good percentage of the population has left inshore habitat, and are heading offshore until spring.. Yes they can still be caught next few months but its a long sail out to them, and not many boats go after them... years ago before bag limits/seasons, all of sept and first few weeks of oct were prime time and all the bottom boats advertised they were sailing for Sea Bass/Porgies/Blackfish, and all 3 species were in the coolers.. They do the same thing with tog.. They wait until they start to go dormant to open the season... Tog might hit sporadically in 40 degree water, but they bite like crazy in 55 degree water.. I understand their reasoning I suppose, just too much pressure in the modern age.. Doesn't mean I have to like it....

Last year I anchored up on one of my numbers at the SBR area and surprisingly I limited out on Sea Bass plus some Triggers. It was only 25 ft of water. Clam was the bait of choice. I know every year is different but it's worth a shot! Good luck!
