Default -Slip It In- Canyon Report 10/18-19/2017

After checking some Sat shots of some good water in the Toms, pointed the boat in that direction and headed out. Weather man was calling for 3feet at 10 seconds, and light winds. Well he was wrong we got bang around all the way out there and the wind didn't let down much the whole trip. Arrived little after lunch and set up on the troll looking for some life. Only few other boats there at that time, and only heard of few small longfin and mahi boated.

After few hours with no success trolling, we looked for some deep bait and fish to deep drop on. Sent a nice big squid down and 15 mins later, some activity on the rod. Moved bait around for about 10 mins then hooked up. Boated one keeper sword then made another drop, no luck on second drop. Decided to moved in to the edge to set up for a night of chunking.

Very windy and boring night on the water, few shark and a one mahi. Lots more boats starting to show up in the area. Morning we still chunked and got 2 more mahi. Set up for troll for a little before trying to beat the windy forecast ride home. Picked up a nice fat yellowfin and decided to head home. First hour home was nice then it got little rough for last 2 hours.

It was nice to get out to the deep in late October and produce some meat in the box. Especially since this year I believe was very hard for smaller boats to fish the canyon this year. Was 0 for 2 coming into this trip deep dropping this year, so it was great to finally see all of the hard work and research this past winter produce. Taking tips from what people are doing in Florida and Texas has really produced a very easy and effective daytime rig. And hand-crank of course too!
