Thumbs up RiVeR rEpOrT 7/5

Where do I head during the dog days of summer? The big rivers of NJ. Why? Cus its hotter than hell and if I get too hot I just jump right on in to cool down. HAHA! Lots of fish to be had this time of year but of course night time is the right time. Who the hell wants to be in the direct sun when its 95 degrees out anyway? Not this guy!

First stop, the bait spot. Got my Rockies and Gills rather quickly yesterday as well as catching 3 Brown Trout, "ACCIDENTALLY!" This NJ Brownie shortage is really killing me. I can't seem to get away from the Tiger Trout or the Browns, weird! The biggest Brown went about 12 inches. Lots of smaller Bronzebacks at the bait spot as well, biggest one going about 14 inches.

Anyway, off to the big fish grounds to see what was lurking last night. Got set up and played with the cocktail Stripers while the big baits were soaking. Tons of run offs from Channels last night but they were all cookie cutters, 3-5 lbers would run with the bait 50-60 yards and just drop it. I think my baits were rather large for the little Channels that were on the move last night. Switched 1 rod over to cut bait and managed to land 3 Channels on 3 consecutive casts. Too small for pics, 20 inchers. Big bait rod goes off around 10 and this fish isn't no Catfish. It's a drag ripping river "LINE SIDER!" What an awesome battle in the current! Fish was all go no quit! First river keeper of the year taped out at 28 1/4 inches. Been getting the cocktail Schoolies and big shorts lately. It's about time I got a bigger River Stiper. YEA BUDDY!!!!

Oh and the Flatheads still bite during the spawn! You just have to have patience!

TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!

DAMN BROWN TROUT SHORTAGE...........

KEEPER...........Damn pic doesn't do the fish any justice, sorry fellas!!!

Great report Eddie.
I wonder where the Brown Trout are coming from. Native born? Or maybe they were stocked by one of the private trout fishing clubs?

Fast Eddie, would it be cool if I ask you advice where to fish for cats? I tried near the Lambertvile with no results. I will buy you a bottle of scotch.

At least northern nj, the Browns are wild. The state is resurveying them, and bc supposedly they'll leave more water in the rivers.
