Default Bass Limits off Long Branch 6/20 - PM

We ran out of MI at 4pm, heard about a late afternoon bite off long branch. Searched in close and out by 3 mile line, bunker but no bass. Then 6pm hit and it was insanity all over out of nowhere. Bass breaching, white water smashes, the type of bass action we all dream of. Landed our over and under limit to 45lbs by 6:45pm and headed home, all live lining. I had been out 5 mornings in past week with nothing to show, this one made up for it.

Great to be at the right place at the right time for a change, right?

Not sure what makes these fish go off all of a sudden like that but it sure is exciting to see.

Curious on a few things....
- Were you using braid or a mono set up ?
- Snag and drop or were you using a single hook and if so what size ?

The reason I ask is because more then a few people have been getting bites but not connecting. I'm thinking it might have something to do with braid and hook size.

We had 10/0 weighted snag hooks with 24 inches of mono to braid. Snag and drop, keeping boat close to pod was best. Didnt have any misses luckily.

I've been doing very well in that area as well, snag it and leave it...I crimp mono leaders to my snag hooks and put a ball bearing swivel clasp on my 50lb braid so I can quickly change over to whatever I want, I use an 8/0 snag, my opinion is 10/0 is a little large for me to fish but excellent for far cast into bunker pods. And it's easy to figure out which pods are holding bass...if you see a huge pod kind of relaxed looking I don't waste my time ( not saying there isn't bass on these pods) but if you see a smaller pod outside of the bigger pod, circled up tight like a bait ball..go there! And as far as loosing fish on the hook set, it's real simple. Operator error! An experienced fisherman that comes on my boat often, old school tuna and shark guy taught me that Mr. Pole holder is the best hook setter out there..I have yet to lose a bass I hooked up with on a snag hook.....
