![]() This year has been amazing for me in terms of new experiences:
-First solid year of ice fishing, nothing big but I finally learned how to jig to a great amount of success -First year of solid trout fishing, I was finally able to make many trips down to the Ramapo and really hone down my trout fishing skills on the river -First year trying to catch pike, after making 5-6 trips on the Passaic, I finally landed my first ever pike, and I've been able to hone my skills to the point where I've probably landed at least 50 pike this year, and set my PB at a respectable 30". -First lake trout- Didn't include the pic (Didn't come out too well) but it was 22" and caught out of Lake George while taking a charter. Probably going to go out for them one last time this year to try for them on my own. -First year attempting salmon fishing- Went to Pulaski for 2 separate days having no experience with salmon. By the end of the two trips, I had hooked up multiple times and was able to feel my first battle with a salmon! Unfortunately did not get to land any fish though. Along with all my firsts, managed to have one of my best years bass fishing, with 2 bass over 5lbs (Only got pic of one) and plenty over 3. Overall, I've explored and successfully fished around 9 new bodies of water this year, ranging from the Salmon River in Pulaski to Lake Flower in Saranac Lake to Pompton Lake and the Passaic River. I think it might be safe to say that in this year alone I've nearly doubled my fishing knowledge. I've had a blast this year and I'm hoping that it hasn't ended just yet! **Sorry about the upside-down pics, I've tried the best I can to flip them over but everything I've tried isn't working haha |

![]() well as Rob said already, it's not even close to over yet! I don't know if anyone remembers my crazy goal but i wanted one skillful angler sized fish of every fw species...i failed that pretty early when i couldn't get a shad quite big enough (got close though, and it was my first time fishing for them). I still wanted to see how many i could get and I really think the goal in the back of my mind helped me have, hands down, my best year fishing! (and it's not even over yet!) I also can't say enough for this site and all the guys that contribute; I definitely wouldn't have done quite as well with out some of you (I hope i've been able to give back some as well). I spent a bit too much time saltwater fishing

![]() First and foremost, I am very happy that I began participating in njfishing freshwater forum in 2015. This site is a community full of great people and it has been a blast sharing fishing reports, stories, tips etc. I have learned a lot from the fishermen on the site. I look forward to participating in the future!
I didn't end up doing as much saltwater fishing as I usually do, but I had quite a few trips in NJ and Massachusetts and did really well with the stripers and tuna. I was fortunate to be able to fish a wide open topwater bite on striped bass from 18 to 34lbs. The tuna fishing was great as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On the freshwater side of things, I spent most of my time on the sweetwater chasing northern pike on the Passaic. My goal for the year was to break the 40" mark. While I didn't meet that mark, I caught a lot of fish from 30-34", and quite a few over 35" with biggest measuring between 37 and 38". I learned a lot about pike fishing on this particular river and the species has become one of my favorites in freshwater. ![]() ![]() While I didn't meet my pike goal, I did manage to catch my first musky (from a kayak), and the 25lbs class fish smashed the 40" mark. ![]() In addition to those species, I managed to catch my pb brown trout, lots of smallmouth, pickerel and a few landlocked salmon in Maine, carp and wild brown trout. All in all a good year so far. Looking forward to 2016! ![]() ![]() Last edited by JDTuna; 11-12-2015 at 04:35 PM.. |
