Always let first fish go! Especially striper fishing big no-no to kill first of season!
White lighters!
Bananas
Shining the brightest light you can possibly buy in the water! ( well this may not be superstitious but it burns my a$$)

I hear you all.

Like I mentioned if its small I am not keeping it after catching the next, it will get released. If I don't catch anything then it would be a first for me. I only don't catch anything when I do release it. Don't know why but always held true for me.

That's awesome all keep them coming.

I have superstitions about a few things, such as when I played baseball (I never washed my uniform after I had a good game), softball (three always three practice swings as I reach the plate), bowling (always wiping the ball, even if there is no oil on it), not stepping on sidewalk cracks (well it took years but I did get over that one eventually) and not getting out of bed if the clock reads xx:13. But I don't have a single superstition that I can think of when it comes to fishing. Maybe I need to develop one because I've not had a particularly good summer of fishing and the fall hasn't started out so hot either.

Be careful with that practice... although some species such as bullheads, white catfish, most sunnies, etc. have no minimum size limit, any species that does and is undersize must be released unharmed immediately.

I know you are right of course. In all the fairness it doesn't take long between first and second but you are correct I am walking a thin line there. 98% of the times the first one caught is not size limit fish but its been time when there were fish caught that do have a size limit.

I'm also very superstitious about posting the exact locations of where I'm fishing b/c of lurkers on fishing forums and exposing success to bucket brigaders who rape our watersheds, killing everything they catch.

I usually have to give it at least 5 more casts!

Try not to catch a fish on the very first cast...will jinx the rest of the trip
