Hit the river again yesterday for a few hours. Took another 45min cruise up a new stretch. Even un-launched at one point to go around a full blockage across the river. Came up to another and decided to start fishing our way back. After the first twenty min I hooked up with a decent fish. Get em in the net and saw it was a fat pickerel. Cool!! Maybe 10 casts later I hooked up with a better fish! Fought for a min through some logs and debris and netted a nice 30" pike. Quick CPR and back he went. Picked up 2 more shorties and a 14" lmb the rest of the day. Didn't realize till I got home and looked at the pics that the pike had noticeable pattern in his colors. So, could it be? Is it possibly a.............. Pike-erel??????

Pure pike. A lot of juvenile pike like that and even some adults have barring. Usually the barring breaks up as they mature.

PR Pickerel is pretty cool man, I've yet to catch one myself. My buddy had one about 5 years ago when we were fishing live bait near Horseneck but that has been the only one I've seen in person.
