Gee thanks acabtp...I'll have no problem concentrating on work now! It's hard enough trying to read Andy's post without constantly scrolling back up to look at that pic...now this!!! Oh well I guess I'll just have to suffer through it.

I was swinging the fly downstream, watching 8inch brookies swirl on the fly over and over but too seemingly to small to eat it, I suddenly had a savage take, just under the surface. the kind of strike that literally scares you for a second. after about a minute fight on a huge fish, (all I saw was dark sillhouette about 30 inches long) he broke me just above the fly. clean cut 10lb test tippet (high dirty water). is it possible this was a musky or pike? (and not the giant trout I have been telling friends I lost lol)
There are lots of pike in the South Branch although they're not wanted there and you won't hear many people talking about them. They mostly likely came down from Budd Lake and are most abundant near Clinton and Califon. I hear awhile back they could be caught with some regularity in the big slow pool at Califon, but they're definitely not wanted in there with the trout and people were encouraged to kill them. I was told at Shannon's that they were becoming less abundant, most likely from people killing them. That being said, I would venture to guess that it is not unlikely to find a pike anywhere in the South Branch.

I doubt that they make it below the solitude dam( comming from above)
and doubt that they can get above the dukes dam (comming from below)

But that still leaves a HUGE section where they could be...

This may all change if the dukes dam ever comes down
