No this isn't the start of a good joke. Fishing the Lehigh river from shore yesterday (first time out this year) I look down and there are two Muskies loving on eachother, swimming right next to eachother, rubbing against eachother and rolling on eachother.
In about 2 feet of water, 10 feet from shore. Sounds hot I know. Both fish in the 15-20lb class. Amazing how big they are and how wide. Still haven't caught one but thought it was a cool sight. I wondered if they were reproducing. Maybe they are. That would be very cool. I never catch any small ones either but maybe..... |

I believe that only tiger muskies are stocked in the Lehigh. Being sterile hybrids, tigers cannot breed. Perhaps they were engaging in spawning behavior due to instinct, but sadly nothing will come of it.

I have never even seen a muskie before. Up until recently I did not even know we had them here in NJ. |

These were regular muskies I am pretty sure, not tiger muskies. The water was very shallow and I didn't see any stripes, just green sides. Pretty sure the Lehigh has regular muskies, not sure about tiger muskies. Lehigh has had Muskies for a long long time from what I read.
No idea on water temps. Didn't see any trout except for some surface movement that was probably them. No smallies but I usually don't get them in this spot. I was mostly fishing slower water where I saw them. On a side note, lots of ticks around. Pulled one out of my balls. Worse friggin place to get a tick bite. If I didn't itch and scratch down there enough. |
