For me it started the night before when Capt Rich called telling me he found BIG tuna right where he has expected them to be for the whole month his boat was down. To make sure I had REALLY gone over my equipment as these tuna were going to test my tackle to the limit. Second drop of the jig and I get CRUSHED and this tuna is going back to Hateras at 50, tried pushing the drag to the limit only to bust a line, did that on two more before going to a rod with heavier braid. Then I hook into the 71 incher and get almost spooled twice, seeing this tuna swim along side the boat EFFORTLESSLY after I had been pulling on it for a LONG time with the reel PINNED to the max just showed me how tough these things get as I was WHOOPPED, to the point that I could barely lift the tail for the pic.
The mahi and yellowfins show allowed some time to recoup some strength do drop the jig down again for another beast . while putting some more great eats on ice.
JF def was a PLEASURE fishing alongside you also and really cool to see another fish with such intensity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Captain Rich of MR charters def doesnt need to read reports of whats going on as he MAKES it happen. While other guys sit waiting for a call with the numbers he is out looking for where he KNOWS tuna should be.
Def a thousand times more fun fighting these fish when there isnt a boat around for miles and miles.
DEF not about just having the Balls to go look for fish its having the knowledge to know where to go and where to look because he knows TUNA period.. and most of all its about doing what his customers are paying him for, the best day on the water he can give them.
He should start charging a finders fee for all the guys he is helping get on fish that have been too LAZY to look for them on their own .

Captain Dan by no means did I not want to give Richy credit of his abundent knowledge of Tuna. Because he has an immense amount of knowledge!!...Richy Monday in a coversation that I had with him out there, made me remember about a very young angler that fished on a boat a few slips away from me in Brielle in the middle nineties.... he then told me it was him...and I remembered the enthusiasm back then. His love and passion today for tuna fishing comes with the many hours of time and energy he has put in since those days. He truly is one of the best Tuna Captains in the Metro area!!! Especially at finding BIG ONES!!!!
