Beats 2 packs of gulp at $8 or $9 a pop coupled with the fact you don't have to throw the lure away after two hits and your fishing sand and not rocky bottom losing rigs.

It's a different ballgame when it comes to freshwater bass tackle, they're highly effective at catching fishermen and sometimes they catch fish too lol

The math says it's a wash but somehow it hits different when a bluefish makes off with your $25 vision 110 haha

Good point. At the same time I've lost a lot of gulp and jigs to marauding bluefish over the years as well. May not be $25 a pop but they add up quickly. Not all can but many do spend whatever it takes to catch the right one or fish of a lifetime. I guess it comes down to angler choice but maybe start with soft plastic and a 1/4 oz. to see if bluefish are in the area and if not then throw the expensive stuff.

Most party boats are charging $90 these days and with fuel, lunch, tackle, tolls, ice, tips, possibly lodging etc. get 10 top shelf lures instead for the technique you've created and I'd take it in a heart beat considering the conditions and time of year were right. Right now with these unrelenting south winds and cold temps, your chance of catching a trophy fish is more likely in the shallows than the deep so factor everything in and I'd bet the costs are comparable. Average trip costs all in probably runs between $150 and $200 these days.

I've watched this guy on his You Tube 'cooking and fishing' videos. It is immediately apparent he is quite accomplished catching fluke sans boat. Don't think you can go wrong by emulating his techniques. Videos are worth your time.
