Fished the musky last night several miles from the Delaware river and we thought we hooked a huge trout. After several drag burning runs we slid the net under a shad. Is this a common thing to catch in the musky? We also had a tiger trout which I was surprised to see because I thought the state only stocked rainbows.

Tiger trout seem to be turning up all over the place for some unexplained reason. I guess with all the dam removal on the Musky some shad are finding their way up the river.

The pool below the falls at Columbia Lake (Paulinskill River) was loaded with shad yesterday. They were circling the pool, occasionally breaking the surface. Caught a couple on a silver Phoebe, then switched to a Roostertail to see if any trout were in the mood and caught another large shad. Great fight on ultra-light outfit. They must run up the feeder streams from the Delaware.

Removing that dam will be quite an undertaking. It's actually hollow with a tunnel that runs the width of it inside. Restoring the river channel above the dam will also be a difficult task due to the immense volume of sediment buildup in the former lakebed, now just mainly a shallow muck hole with a channel through it. |
