Anyone use a bite alarm? I want something that isn't crap so I'm looking for some first hand experiences cause I have to order online as nowhere I've checked has them. I want to be able to put my rod far away or take a nap and not have to worry about missing it or giving too much line. Something called max bite line alarm (I think) seems to have decent reviews on amazon.

Check out carp websites like bigcarptackle.com. They have a good selection of alarms. You'll need either a rod pod or special bank sticks to screw them into. The Fox Microns work well and they're on the cheaper side at $50. You can find some for $20 too. If you want nicer ones the Delkims are great but they're expensive.

Just purchased one from amazon. Needed acouple more bucks to get free shipping so decided to try it out. Its less than $4 so I dont expect much but the reviews are good, mention its really sensitive and loud. I can let you know how it is when I receive it.

Clip some small bells on end of rod tips. That's how I use to fish with my grandfather at night time. They worked great and very inexpensive.

I do the same when surf fishing the hudson for stripers. Me and all the Chinese guys get them 2 for a dollar at Rt. 46 b&t. Just have to take them off before you set the hook or you'll be jingling all the way...and have to remember to take them off before you cast or they'll go flying. As long as your drag is set loose for the fish to run without taking your rod for a swim, these work great and are cheap.

just realized i need a special stake for the line alarm to screw into i guess? couldn't find them on the site except for huge multi rod holder set ups haha.
I'm guessing for the price they're crap but what about these: http://www.bigcarptackle.com/ngt-clip-on-z-alarm no special rod holder needed. unless they get in the way while casting and fighting the fish? I feel like you wouldn't want the line in the alarm wheel while fighting the fish. i hate buying new stuff online, i wish stores around here just had them so i could look at it and not worry about all the guess work and just exchange it if i wanted something else haha
