Got the chance to travel up north with the kayak on Friday. Water was a little high. Landed 5 largemouth, 4 perch, 2 pickerel and 5 pike. All the pike were small, biggest around 24in. Everything caught on spinners. Biggest bass was around 3lbs.

I was surprised to catch the number of largemouth I did. I had only ever caught pike and perch. I thought smallmouth were the dominant bass.

You are definitely right about smallmouth being the dominant bass in most of the river. However, I have definitely caught some nice largemouth in certain stretches though. I remember below the paterson falls catching largemouth with gashes in it or with weird looking mouths. Prob from falling over the great falls or from being attacked by a pike. Every largemouth was always solid though which means they were feeding well. I have gotten most of them on spinner baits or husky jerk rapalas.

I've caught a bunch of largemouth bass, pike, yellow perch but still haven't got a smallmouth.
