Default Sandy Hook today...

anyone do any fluking today around the sandy hook area? what were the conditions like and how was the fishing? had a trip planned today for weeks to tow the boat down with some buddies and woke up very early this morning to pea soup fog. checked the forecast last night before bed and there was no mention of fog! amazing how fast conditions can change - really sucked to have to make calls at 3:30am to scratch the trip. wondering if i made the right call and if i should be patting myself on the back or banging my head against the wall. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance...

Fishings been up and down depending on conditions. If you are a small boat without radar you made the right call past several days because of the fog.

Fog stopped you from fishing? FOG doesn't even slow me down and I fish from a kayak.

Picked one keeper about 1,000' from where I launched the kayak on Saturday before the rain. Water was glassy, but was afraid to go any further out toward any channels because of the fog. You definitely made the right choice, mostly short action anyway.

This is probably the dumbest thing I've read in a while.

AaaaH... A man with an appetite for propellers? What fog signal do you sound and what running lights do you turn on?

It's a bit more complicated than the fear of getting lost.

I was rather amazed that 90% of the boats I saw in SH bay on Saturday did NOT have their navigation lights on. And that does not include the couple of kayaks that were at the AHMM breakwater.

Fog is no bs. Those ocean going tankers that use the sandy hook channel make no noise. Error on the safe side to fish another day.

Agreed... fog is no BS. I was fishing in my Carolina Skiff drifting the channels around the knoll a few years back. No radar just GPS... it went from bluebird to pea soup in a matter of 20 minutes. I had a few waypoints and got my a$$ near a can so at least it would throw off a better radar signal than me and I figured I was out of the way of the fast moving sea streak and any cargo container shipping......... waited out around there until I could visibility improved. I would rather face short period 5 footers wind against tide in my skiff and still see what is coming over heavy fog any day..... just not fun when you are white knuckling it the whole time out there.
