South wind is never any good. It blows the warm water out to be replaced by cooler water.

We had a nice 24" fat fish today on the Paramount in the deep. Right after the full moon a new body of fish always moves in. We had quite a nasty storm move through here yesterday about 4PM I'm glad I was home by then winds I would say the winds were 50 MPH or better. Usually after a storm like this the fishing heats up.

Fished RI last week and fishing could not have been better
RI limit is 8 fish at 18" Day one- Boat limit 56 keepers Day two - Just shy of boat limit 18 fish over 5 lbs. biggest going 8.6 lbs. and bucktails. Fish feeding on whole squid and sand eels. Based on time of year and water temps you need to go were fish are most likely to be and feeding. |

When bass are still in the picture ocean side, it's usually a good indication water is too cold for fluke. At least that's been my experience. Reports suggest there's still a major body of bass around so in my opinion a majority of the fluke coming in under the recent full moon tide are still moving into the warmer bay or taking up residence in the channels seeking the warmer water being flushed out on ebb tides. Remember fluke don't fare well with large bass either as I've found more than a few in their stomachs over the years. There's fish there but with a south wind, cold water the bite is tough. I'm hoping as everyone said when the temps rise the body of fish in the bays will move out into the ocean as usual. Same cycle every year assuming the body of fish from the east moves in. Sounds like the Highlands is having a banner year, as long as commercial guys don't net them all up we should have a good summer when temps warm up ocean side. Dakota |
