![]() First off, I do not own a Canyon reel. My brother has one and the only thing I see wrong with it is the distance the drag lever has to travel, much farther than an Avet. I can't put it in free spool without changing hands.
Fixing an Avet requires replacing the pinion bearing right under the drag knob. It is the only bearing that is difficult to get out. Maybe there is a special tool to get it out, but I could not find anything. Being an engineer I made my own, pops it out easily. I used to set the drag by feel until I damaged a few bearing. Now I use a scale. I think I found an alternative to using a scale on the Avet SX. Tighten the drag until it just stops free spooling in the Bait position, just a little bit of tension. That puts it at 7 to 8 ponds in Strike and 11 in Full.

![]() Sorry guys. I check the site and get the error message all of the time, so I have not been on here much.
The HS 15 is a great little reel and I see what the guys are saying about the free spool and the drag. It does go down a bit, before you hit the free spool. An option is the HS 16, if your not worried about spending a few extra dollars. Its a much different reel, night & day. Dual drag, different set up completely. If you would like to try the reels, I am always lending my stuff out to people who have their doubts about the reels. I use the HS-16 for just about everything now, from fluke to inshore tuna. Plenty of drag, line capacity, and is even available in a 2 speed model too, although I dont see the need for the 2 speed in that size reel. Not here in Nj at least. The original HS-15's had a few issues with drags backing off, but once the camber is replaced they are fine. What kind of questions do you have?? Again.... sorry for the delay. Not sure if its my computers or not.... but just yesterday had an error message on a server come up when I tried to get on here. ( 3 different times yesterday) Is there a secret now? Something I should know? |
