Default Passaic 1/3/13

Hit the river for about an hour today and threw what has been working lately. Not a whole lot of action considering water was pretty high and fast. Most of my spots had skim ice so it was somewhat challenging. Got one strike but he missed, pike would probably have been my biggest it was easily in the 38'+ class. Keep working that open water there still feeding especially the big ones. Has anyone had anyluck recently with smallies?

Nice to hear there's still some action. I'll probably try to get out in the kayak at some point this weekend. As for the Smallies, I did extremely well in January and February last year with them. Mostly live bait and smaller Husky Jerks.

It should be noted that last year was a lot warmer in January than it is now. That being said, live bait fished slow along the bottom may yield a few smallies. Artificials are probably not the way to go right now.
