Had some time off so up to the Catskills I went. Sunday morning the 12th I rolled into Callicoon NY, breakfast at the bustling Sunoco station in town. Hit the run at Callicoon and got 1 nice Rainbow trout and rolled another, saw a drift boat in the distance. Next stop Hankins on the main stem Delaware, got 2 very shiny Rainbows, up to Kellhams where I can usually get one but got the skunk, hindsight I should have gone to 1/8 oz. jig. Ran up to Hancock where I hit the lower East branch and West branch quickly before calling it a day, nothing. Monday morning went to Deposit to fish the West branch, unfortunately the water was very very low and had a grey tinge which probably put the fish in a funk but I did manage 1 Brown and rolled another. Worked my way down to a few spots, nothing doing. It was midday by now and wasn't feeling it on the West branch so went over to East branch, very gin clear water, same as the main stem and very very cold, nothing. Drove up to Roscoe ( "Trout Town U.S.A.) and hit some spots on the Beaverkill, very low, very clear and very cold, I couldn't buy a fish. Was supposed to fish a 3rd day but I knew what the results would be, so I flipped over all the cards and headed for home. Notes: I think everything used to shut down completely on the branches after October 15th, but you can now fish up there after October 15th, no kill, artificial only. Saw a few fly fishermen and a few drift boats, overall pretty quiet. I picked up trash at most spots and see more "NO TRESSPASSING" signs now. I couldn't afford to do a drift boat by myself so I hit the banks. At one point I found myself way back in the middle of the main stem only to realize I'm not as young as I used to be. It was very pretty up there. As a spin fisherman my window of opportunity is from the middle of March to the end of April and October to the middle of November, the rest of the time it's a fly fishing game as bugs are prolific. I won't go up in the middle of summer nor the middle of the winter. I worked hard for every trout I caught, the Rainbows looked like miniature Steelheads, very much chrome. If you have any questions feel free to ask, all trout released.

Well he still fished ladies and gentlemen! That’s a beautiful area to be in for sure. A lot of water to cover and walking isn’t really that easy unless you have a long cast. Haha! Congrats on getting a couple to the net. They are perfect specimens for sure.
