Hey all,
I'm currently in the market for a new spinning rod and wanted to get some recommendations. Looking for a rod preferably under $150 that can do the following: - fish 1-10oz lead - fish 1-8oz bucktails - suitable for inshore fluking and rough offshore conditions for seabass, ling, and cod Thanks guys! |

Look at a Penn Slammer for party boat fishing.

Once u get that heavy with lead isn't it easier/less angler abuse to go conventional? Paying out line to maintain bottom is also easier with a conventional set up. To each their own I guess...
Not many spinning outfits designed particularly for such high lure weights. As stated already, penn and ugly stick make broom sticks that'll handle the weight you're looking to use.

I've been using an OLD fiberglass 7' boat rod with a PENN 6000 power graph spinner reel spooled with 25lb mono...works just fine...handles up to 12oz and drops line fine with bailer open...good for fluke and blues too...

Sounds great guys, thanks for the help. As of now, my top choices are the Jigging World Nexus, the Shimano Trevela as well as the Ugly Stik Tiger.

The nexus seems like a nice rod that is pretty versatile in terms of how much weight it can handle, so it might fit what you’re looking for better. I looked into them and ended up going with a Tsunami Airwave Coastal 7’ that was in stock at Reel Seat. I’ve used it a bunch of times for fluke on party boats and it is a great rod for the price point. I paired it with a Tsunami Shield 4000 and have been really happy with it. Good luck in your search! |
