10-21 Canyon Report

We have space available for the trip leaving this Sunday night.
We also have room available next Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We had another good trip to the canyon.
We were only anchored for 15 minutes before we landed our first tuna. Another one was landed shortly after that.
We started to read fish and it looked like it was going to be a good day.
However, it was a very slow pick through the night. We would get a bite or two and then wait.
A few time it looked like they would turn on but they never did.
As 5am approached I expected them to turn on. 6am, 7am still very slow. Most days the bite would have been over by now and we never really had more than one or 2 at a time.
We had some fish in the boat but not good.
At 730am we started to read more fish and they began to bit on bait and jigs.
we had good fishing after that and wound up tripling what we had caught from 1:30PM until 730AM.
We would up with over 60 tuna and a 70lb wahoo.

A few notable catches were:
Mike Vastola from Lavallette NJ with 1 yellowfin and 4 longfin.
John Zapella with 5 tuna.
Mike Houdart from Marlton NJ with 1 yellowfin, 2 longfin, and a 70lb Wahoo.
Art Haluska from Edison NJ caught 3 longfin tuna.
Jim, Joe, and Tim Porzucek from Wilkes-Barre PA caught 9 tuna.
It looks good for upcoming trips.

The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail at 7am every Tuesday and Thursday for 31hr trips. Overnight 22hr trips depart 5pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
