Gonna try to fish every day this week so Next up was the upper Raritan for smallies.Started off throwin storm shads got 1 dink,I noticed allot craws in the water so I collected a dozen or so.Drifted them thru a few choice holes only to come up with channel cats,I've never had any luck with crayfish for smallies.I tried drifting them with no weight then with weight, tried um on a jig head only to find cats on my line.Biggest channel went about 5lbs all were caught in fairly swift deep runs.

Nice job, the cats are on fire right now in the river. I got around 10 last night from 730-9 with action every cast. Ive never had luck with crawfish either for bass, but ive been killin smallies on 4in grubs lately.

Use the smaller ones - 1-1.5", pull off the claws, hook them thru the tail and use bb shot about 6-8" above it. They will work but nothing like hellgrammites or those psycho worms I call crazy snakeworms. Those r the ones found just below the loose dirt, move very fast/jump and break apart when you hook them. They barely last beyond one cast or hit but fish love 'em.
