I've heard of binge drinking but recently discovered a thing called binge cleaning. This is how the last 5 days on the Raritan river played out.
Feb.1: Cleaned the river banks and floodplain area from the Headgates in Duke Island Park down to Robert. St. Feb.2: Cleaned the river banks area in Orlando park in Raritan Borough and both sides of the Nevius St. bridge area and walked the banks up to the entrance of the Raritan River Greenway. Feb.3: Went into the Peters Brook area in Somerville and cleaned in there. Feb.4: Ray joined me and we cleaned along the river and floodplain from Robert St. to the entrance of the Raritan River Greenway. Feb.5 Jens and I did a small section of Duke Park in Manville near the river. The majority of the time I was able to lug the garbage up to the trash receptacles where I sorted the trash and disposed of it. I started getting backed up as I had accrued too much trash and starting filling up the back of my truck. I was going to go a day 6 along the Torpey section of the river in Bridgewater but my truck is full so it will have to wait. Many thanks to those who came out and joined me. Couldn't have done this if there were 2 feet of snow on the ground, taking advantage of that during this winter. Most spots never spending more than 3 hours at any given location. No ticks on me so far and I found a dollar bill at Nevius St. so I came out ahead. Didn't take many photos over the 5 day period of cleaning. |

Andy....your efforts are no less than unbelievable! Thanks so much for the tireless work you put into this. That said, it's beyond sad how people can crap on nature and not think twice. Would be great some day if we had the resources to have some hidden cam recorders like hunters use to catch the scum who think nothing about trashing the environment. I don't know what the fines and penalties are but I pray they're enough to act as a deterrent to people who get caught and those who think about the same fate.
Again GREAT job on the clean up, you are a tremendous custodian and advocate of Mother Nature! We can surely use more people like yourself! |

Santería is a system of beliefs that merges aspects of Yoruba mythology that were brought to the New World by enslaved Yoruba people, along with Christianity and Indigenous American traditions.[2] The Yoruba people carried with them various religious customs, including a trance and divination system for communicating with their ancestors and deities, animal sacrifice, and sacred drumming and dance.[3][4] The need to preserve their traditions and belief systems in a hostile cultural environment prompted those enslaved in Cuba, starting from as early as 1515, to merge their customs with aspects of Roman Catholicism.[
