That's nuts!
Maybe the thin pike bit off more than it could chew in very cold water and couldn't swallow such a bass, but wouldn't let it go either out of instinct (if you're starving you don't let go of food!) and they both died (bass died first), floated up and froze! Mid-winter lake crime scene |

I don't know about wouldn't let go as much as basically choked trying to swallow. Once the bass gets in so far where the pike couldn't open his mouth any farther the pikes teeth wouldn't let the bass out and basically they both suffocated.
