Default Trout Stocking Update

Due to extremely low water conditions in most trout streams, the Division of Fish and Wildlife has made some adjustments to the upcoming stocking schedule. Read the link to see adjustments to the Big Flatbrook, Black River and South Branch in particular.

I saw this coming! Made a post about it somewhere way before they made this decision! This is what happens when it doesn't rain! Terrible! As long as the snaggers on the NB are happy, it's all good! Lol! I kindly ask all NJFers to start doing a rain dance now if possible! We need rain for everything, LIFE!!!!

There should be some real "sport" fishing next week. Except for sections of the Musky which will be stocked by volunteers, expect every bridge access point to be dumping points. Don't look to far from where they were put in either. The first spot closest to the bridge with water deeper than your knees will be as far as you'll have to go. The runs and riffle pools from the spring levels will be gone so both the fish and fishermen will be concentrated in only a few spots. Someone might have to hand out numbers to get a place in the hole. It is what it is. The bigger streams will at least give the trout a sporting chance and the fishermen a chance for some sport.

10/4/16 - The following waters are affected by low flow conditions:

S/Br. Raritan River (upstream of Rt. 513 / Rt. 517 Bridge in Long Valley): The fish allocated for this area will be stocked in the South Branch of the Raritan River between Long Valley and the Red Mill Dam in Clinton Township.

Black River: Flow in the Black River is so low that trout will not be stocked anywhere in the river. These fish will be stocked in the South Branch of the Raritan River between the Red Mill Dam in Clinton Township and the confluence with the North Branch of the Raritan River.

Wallkill River: No fish will be stocked upstream of West Mountain Rd bridge. These fish will be spread out throughout the rest of the Wallkill River.

Big Flatbrook (upstream of Rt. 206): Flows in this section of the Big Flatbrook are too low for trout stocking. The fish allocated in this section will be distributed downstream of Rt. 206 throughout the rest of the trout stocking locations.
All other streams will be stocked where conditions allow. Drivers of stocking trucks will determine if conditions at each stocking point will allow the location to receive its full allotment, fewer trout than the allotment calls for, or no trout at all. The driver shall use his/her discretion and may stock sparingly. The allocated trout that cannot be stocked at a particular location will be stocked at other stocking points throughout the same stream where feasible.

plenty of big river areas and hold over reservoirs that could take some trout, but sucks that they have to appease the bucket brigade (the legal ones) that have to feed their entire family through fishing for freshly stocked trout (which, sorry guys, taste like dog food and river mud unless you put in way too much effort into cooking them)
