![]() Had an open trip today and was originally going to try flounder fishing but a drop in water temperature in our area made me change my mind. The guys didn't mind taking a ride down the bay to sample some of that hot bluefish action on light tackle - so we did that.
Got down behind BI late and missed the bite in the shallows - tried throwing poppers jigs and plugs but had no bites for the first couple of hours. Went up on the troll with plugs and had one right away. Made a move to the north out in the middle of the bay and banged a few more. We then got a call there were some fish inside the Toms River itself so we took a ride there, and Bill got the best one of the day ~12# on a storm shad. This bite wasn't as good as it was saturday (due to the NE winds) but we still caught some fish and had a nice day with some more action. Most of the bluefish were 7-12# and we had a couple smaller ones around 5#. Great action on lighter tackle. |

![]() Those small ones are good eats. Nice report capt. First I've heard of bluefish this year.
Good luck with the new ride

![]() Nice job. Even the big ones are good if you bleed them which it looks like you did.
