Reel Class Saturday 4/25 Cod & Bottom
First trip of the year for us with Pete and crew on board. The guys wanted cod so we took a ride to the east - real nice ocean inshore but out off the beach it was a little bouncy w/ the NW wind.
Nevertheless we got set up on a piece and got some short cod going right away, as well as pout and dogfish. The bite was very slow but we had a little action here and there.
Made a few moves on the same piece dropping back, and we found more of the same. By around 10, the wind dropped out and we were able to drift and we actually started catching fish a little better for about an hour, where we mostly had MORE short cod and a couple of barely keepers thrown in. By 1PM that action completely stopped, however.
Tried a few drops inshore (~100', 80', 75', 60') and had just a few bergalls. Even tried trolling spoons on the way home south of our inlet but that also was NG.
Water temp out there most of the day was ~45* - NG! Wound up with about 2 dozen short cod and a couple barely keepers + 1 sea raven. Tough day!
