Default My First Laker

Tried to include photo, know you guys like to see the fish, but upload failed; I cropped the image, tried again, failed, tried to access the image from my blog: this wouldn't work. Anyhow, if you want to see my first laker, real simple: Google Litton's Fishing Lines & it's there on the first page.

For 10 years more than any other fish besides Spanish mackerel until 2010 when I caught some, I've wanted to catch a laker. This one fought harder than its three pounds or so suggested, but still a nice fish. Maybe it was three and a half.

Wind hurled out of the north with gusts as high as 40; Round Valley was snow-shot bright with ice over it, although the reservoir's ice broke up since yesterday, just some left in the pocket where the ranger boat sits in season. A great, zesty day to be out open water fishing. Mike showed up, "Bruce, your rod bounced, is that the wind.?" "That's not wind."

Maybe next time I can post a picture. Maybe the jpg was overweight but doesn't seem should have been. If I were more techy, I might know what the problem was. See if I can lower to 72 DPI...

Bruce, Congradulations on your first laker. I remember my first Round Valley laker some 30 years ago like it was yesterday, their fun to catch. If you would like more information on fishing Round Valley lakers there's no better place to start then Round Valley Trout Association. The members there really put the fish in the boats, and their a great bunch of guys who will help putting more fish in your boat. In the 2014 April tournament over 80 lakers were brought to the scales, so I'm sure you could get so good info there. Check out the website and get onboard. Good luck.

A couple of guys use 9 foot lighter action surf rods to really get shiners out from shore. I just plunked 3/4 ounce egg sinker, I don't know, 25 yards out, but this favorite spot drops sharply from one of RV's few shallow points, so I guess I was in at least 12 feet of water, maybe 18. It's slow from shore, but got a rainbow earlier in the season an ounce under 7 pounds. And being out in a boat with wind chills below zero--that's a bear. Where I fish, I retreat to my car with the heater on. It's really nice out there.

I know the club's website, get it by email. Maybe I'll join. For now, I've been into this RV thing since 2006, but really began coming frequently, bass fishing May 2011...and then through the fall, winter, spring for trout. May comes and shore catches of trout are sometimes the best of the year, but I switch to bass. I dreamed of a five-pounder ever since I heard a guy describe his 5 1/2 pound catch in the pond, 2006...and I started fishing both waters regularly 2011 May & finally caught that bass last May in the reservoir.

Let's see if the picture works. Nice fish way to go from shore in the cold!
