Thumbs up Upper Delaware river float/fish 10-10/10-11

DAY 1: Fished with the same guide that Hammer and Lard used. Floated from Buckingham to Long Eddy. Weather was partly cloudy and the water was a bit off due to discharge from the West Branch. Fishing was good for trout during the 1st 4 hours. The 2nd half of the float trip was a slow pick. Wilson got a small walleye on a Panther Martin along with some trout and smallmouth. I did okay on trout and smallmouth mostly in the fast water. Steak and prime rib with cocktails at Lidias to end the day.

DAY 2: Breakfast at the Circle E diner. We looked at how low the East Branch was and decided not to go up onto the Beaverkill, but instead to work our way down from Hancock NY where we were staying. Fished the East Branch near Fireman's Field for a bit, super low and gin clear, no love there. Drove to the other side of town to the West Branch and it was raging and very off color due to the high release rates from the reservoir, no love there. Headed down along the main stem of the Delaware river on the Pa. side popping in at a few places, mostly boat ramps. Stopped and talked to a trio of fly fishermen getting ready to launch their drift boat for the day. They had everything imaginable in their boat from all the latest and greatest gadgets in fly fishing to hand held GPS and maps. I told the 3 older white men that we had a good day yesterday on this stretch fishing for trout and I went on to tell them what we were using. After hearing this, one of the men turned to me and told me to GROW UP ! Wow, I thought to myself. Such is the elitist attitude of the fly fishermen up there. Anyway we drove further down along the river and came out at Callicoon where Wilson and I had a few good hours of fishing. I got a solid brown and rainbow there along with a smaller trout and a smallmouth. I couldn't help but to keep thinking about "growing up" as I reeled in those few big trout in Callicoon on my 5' 6" ultralight rod and reel with 4 pound test line.
2 photos of Long Eddy and what the guide uses and a photo of the East Branch in Hancock NY showing how low the river was.

It was the Andy S show this weekend. I pretty much stunk it up. Dropped more fish then I landed... and I landed about 5.

The weather was great if not just a little too sunny.
Still had a good time fishing.

What I learned:

It's easy to learn how to fly fish but I just can't get the elitist snobby attitude down
Jigs were the ticket this weekend and I'm a shitty jig fishermen.
Not even a freight train running at 50 mph can drown out snoring

And it was Glenlivet scotch on this trip... and lots of it

it isn't all that easy to learn how to fly fish but adults do it for the sense of personal satisfaction. Putting others down is childish.

Quality post...if u can't take a joke this isn't the site for you...I fly fish and I don't take any offense to Wilson's comment. It's a common joke for fly fisherman....BTW nice trip...got to get up there soon..
