Default Round valley report and question...

Fished the Valley on Monday. Got set up with some 6-10 ft traps looking for rainbows and browns and some deeep for lakers. Was 5 guys with spread of death looking for lakers in the middle. They ended up with one flag and a 25 in laker and I caught a nice rainbow shallow on our only non wind flag. When I cleaned the rainbow it was stuffed with what looked to be flea like crustaceans. They were so small I had to pull out the kiddy microscope to get a better look. Does anybody know what these are. I'm sure it has something to do with why rv trout taste Awsome! Makes me think if trout are eating things I can barely see I need lighter leaders to fish there ..6lb floro here I come....

The trout in Round Valley live off of scuds (small freshwater shrimp) and chironomids (small worms or lake fly larva). I’m sure the trout would prefer a baitfish diet, but the lake doesn’t support herring like it once did.

When you caught them, how deep were they?

We ended up catching the rainbow in 8 ft of water with slight weed growth on a shiner...the laker was caught in 85 ft on a shiner too. There was still a strip of open water but I bet last night took care of that. I would say 3 in of hard black with 2/3 in white re -freeze on top of it...Can't wait to go again!!!

Thanks for the scud info...little google search and now I know. Re- rigging tip-ups now with 8 lb floro-6 just seemed to be begging for trouble...hopefully round 2 Sunday early to fish the incoming front. See you all out there...
