Default lake assunpink catfishing

Got out to the big lake just as everyone else was leaving(and complaining about lack of fish). The lake did look dead, no surface action at all! We threw out a marker buoy and chummed the area, then went to see if any top water was going on. After a hour of 3 of us throwing different top water baits it we realized it wasn't happening tonight. I did get a 12 inch shiner while trolling a little heddon torpedo. I didn't know shiners were so aggressive. Went back to the area we chummed earlier. After about 2 hours we got a nice fat bull head then a eel at least 36 inches(just a guess didn't want to touch it). Finished up with 5 bullheads all nice size, a jumbo eel, and a shiner that I floated behind the boat all night without a touch and no channel cats .Used "ripe shrimp" (thanks LunkerTaker)and livers. The shrimp caught most of them. Also went to the back to try some more unproductive top water. Followed the far side to the back very shallow over there finally found a nice patch of weeds and a soon as we got close there was a noise that sounded like someone jumping in the water. Scared the @#$% out of us cause it was like 10 feet from the boat! maybe a beaver or otters...if it was a fish it was huge. finished at 3 am.

Trolling torpedoes? Never thought of it. Nice job on the bullheads. Where did you throw topwaters? The side of the lake the boat ramp is usually dead IMO. Get up in the coves and find shade. Work the prime areas(pockets of open water, visible weedbeds, etc) and cast back to any blowups you get. In the murky water, fish will strike 2 or even 3 times if they don't actually get the lure in there mouth. However, I have seen it DEAD at times there too, it just doesn't work out then.

Glad the help got them A large ELL Man I know they are around but have never hooked the freshwater variety! Didnt know they were there...must be attracted to the bait?

While I have not "cat fished" this pond at night, only during the day, it is still a great place to catch them. My best came in the "dip", to the right facing the launch, off the main lake point across from the launch...it is a long point stretching several hundred yards pointing directly to the launch. The "hump" is great for all species but is closer to the deep water...perfect catfish location.

Also off the other main lake point that reaches far out on the same side...fish the deeper reaches there as well...this is close to the first "inlet" with all the lily pads...to the left...cant miss it with a depth finder

Man I gotta do more catfishing!
