Default Slow Pitch fishing tips needed

I've become intrigued with slow Pitch fishing for stripers (any fish really) but mostly stripers off of a boat I've picked out a rod Okuma a Tesoro 6'8'' heavy power 50-80lb. line 120-300grm lure weight, currently using a Penn Squall 30
SD as a reel is this a good enough combination to get started with? any lures that the group recommends I picked out a half dozen or so with recommendations from the tackle shops I have dealings with, not too many are sure what's best since really do have not fished slow pitch themselves. Should I use one single hook or two top and bottom placement, what are you using that have caught fish in Jersey waters using? I realize this is used primarily in Fla. West coast etc.how many are using this method in Jersey waters Thanks for your input. I've been reading, watching videos, on this, most are in Fla.and other place but none in Jersey Thanks again Tight Lines
