Question How is crabbing in the Navesink?

Thinking of taking a boat rental in the red bank area this weekend but usually go in August. Is the crabbing still slow are has it picked up?

Thanks

I'm on a Crab website and there has been 0 posts on the Sink and Shrewsbury this year.

Not sure. Call Oceanic and they will tell you it's raining crabs in their boats, LOL

Tried twice in June. Sucked. Water dirty and jellies thick as hell. Tons of small males, like real small, 2”. JMO but I think all the hard rain runoff had something to do with it.

Always drop a hi lo rig on a setup and that went untouched as well which is weird. We usually see some eels, crackers, spots and croaks.

Surface water temps shot up to 78* last week after the heat wave so don’t know if that will change anything.

Crabbing was as good as it gets. 3 drops lines with chicken kept us busy enough for 30 nice sized Jimmies in 3 hours or so. Only had one female and she had a huge egg sack on her and a few but not many throw backs. It’s on for sure…

Awesome to hear!! Water seems like it’s cleaned up the last week. No more brown prop wash. Ocean side now but will dip into the river before calling it a day and give it a try. Thanks for the update.
